WNY Imaging Group X-ray and Fluoroscopy

Technology used at our WNY Imaging locations allow our technologists to provide quick and painless images related to bones and joints, while fluoroscopy uses X-rays to obtain real-time moving images.

 

X-ray is the most frequently used form of medical imaging. WNY Imaging Group has a team of friendly and well trained technologists and radiologists employing the latest X-ray and fluoroscopy techniques. Fluoroscopic procedures are performed in a warm, comfortable environment with reduced wait times and fast results.

X-ray

WNY Imaging Group has the latest digital X-ray equipment. Your X-ray is taken quickly with the use of computers and digital technology, which eliminates the time it takes waiting for your X-rays to develop. X-rays are fast and easy procedures with images being obtained instantly onto our computer screen. X-rays taken at our downtown site can usually be completed in a standing position with our U-arm X-ray unit.

Fluoroscopy

Fluoroscopy is a procedure performed by a radiologist using a machine called a fluoroscope, which has the ability to capture continuous X-ray and motion images during the procedure. You’ll be asked to drink barium, a white, chalky liquid, which coats the lining of your esophagus, stomach and small bowel. The radiologist is able to view the barium as it travels through your digestive system. The technologist will take some additional pictures once the radiologist is finished with their portion of the procedure.

Other X-ray/Fluoroscopy Procedures

  • Digital Motion X-ray

    A digital motion X-ray (DMX) is the only medical imaging modality that visualizes the human body while in motion and WNY Imaging Group is one of the few outpatient facilities that offers this procedure. This image-intensified fluoroscopic x-ray system allows the radiologist to view the cervical spine in motion, and in real-time. As you move, so does the image.

    Digital motion X-ray is helpful in diagnosing injuries such as whiplash or ligamentous instability of the neck after motor vehicle accidents. The procedure requires you to stand and actively move your neck and head in nodding and tipping motions. The radiologist is then able to see your head and neck anatomy move instantly. This leads to very clear and accurate images.

  • Small Bowel Follow-Through

    A small bowel follow-through is an X-ray image of your stomach and the upper section of the small intestine. To be able to see these structures on an X-ray, they must be outlined with barium. Patients must swallow barium to illuminate the small bowel anatomy. The barium liquid appears white on an X-ray image. This procedure can take anywhere from 1-6 hours.

  • Upper GI Series

    WNY Imaging Group performs upper GI series and other fluoroscopic imaging procedures at our Ken-Ton location. This is a radiological test that consists of a series of X-rays of the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The upper GI tract is made up of the esophagus, stomach and small intestine (duodenum). The X-rays are taken once the patient swallows barium, a white liquid, that illuminates the upper GI tract when the X-ray images are taken.

  • Esophagram

    This test involves filling the esophagus, and to a lesser extent the stomach and small intestine, with barium solution. Barium is a white, chalky substance that illuminates on an X-ray image. The barium defines the anatomy of the upper digestive tract, which is also known as the upper gastrointestinal (GI) series. An esophagram takes roughly 20 minutes.

  • Modified Barium Swallow

    WNY Imaging Group offers a variety of fluoroscopic procedures including a modified barium swallow. This is a radiologic examination performed while you swallow barium coated substances. These substances are swallowed to assess the quality of the swallowing mechanisms of the mouth, pharynx and esophagus. This procedure is done without a speech pathologist.
